Basic concepts
1. Adhesion: the state in which two surfaces are held together by chemical, physical, or both forces. Synonym: adhesion.
2. Cohesion: the state in which particles in a single substance are combined by the main and secondary valence forces.
3. Mechanical adhesion: the bonding of two surfaces by the bite of adhesive. Synonym: mechanical adhesion.
4. Adhesive failure (adhesiveness failure): the visible failure at the interface between adhesive and adherent.
5. Cohesive failure: visible failure in adhesive or adhesive.
6. Compatibility: the ability of two or more substances to be compatible with each other when mixed.
7. Adhesive: a substance that binds the adherents together by adhesion.
8. Adherend: the object to be glued or the object on both sides of the adhesive layer after bonding.
9. Substrate: material used to coat adhesive on the surface. Note: This is a broader term than "adherent".
10. Wetting: the affinity of a liquid to a solid. The smaller the contact angle between them, the easier the solid surface will be wetted by liquid. Synonym: wetting
11. Dry: the process of changing the physical state of the adhesive on the adhesive by evaporation and absorption to reduce the solvent or dispersion medium.
12. Bond: the bonding of the surfaces of the object to be bonded by adhesive. Synonyms: bonding
13. Curing: the process of obtaining and improving the bonding strength of adhesives through chemical reactions (polymerization, crosslinking, etc.).
14, hardening (setting set): through the chemical reaction or physical action (such as polymerization, oxidation, gelation, hydration, cooling, evaporation of volatile components), the adhesive can obtain and improve the bonding strength, cohesive strength and other properties.
15. Adhesive layer: the adhesive layer in the bonding part.
16. Cross linking: the process of forming chemical bonds between molecules and producing a three-dimensional spatial network structure.
17. Delamination: in laminated products, the separation between layers caused by the failure of adhesives, adherents or their interfaces.
18. Squeeze out: the adhesive extruded from the adhesive layer after the assembly is pressurized.
19. Blocking: undesirable bonding between materials
20. Dry tack aggressive stack: a characteristic of some adhesives, especially non vulcanized rubber adhesives. When the volatile components in the adhesive evaporate to a room level, in the case that the handle seems to be dry, their contact will adhere to each other.
21. Fillet: the part of adhesive filled at the intersection angle of two stickies (such as the adhesive fillet formed at the end of the sandwich when the honeycomb sandwich is bonded with the surface material).
22. Degree of cure: the degree of chemical reaction characterized by the curing of adhesive.
Aging: the phenomenon that the performance of adhesive joint changes with time.
24. Tack: when the adhesive contacts with the object to be adhered, a little pressure will immediately form the property of equivalent bonding strength.
